🌞 Summer Plans? Here's Everything You Need to Know About Housing & Storage at PLU

Hey guys!

The end of the semester is just around the corner, which means it's time to start thinking about what happens after finals. Specifically, where you'll be living and what you'll do with all your stuff. We know summer logistics can feel overwhelming, especially when you're far from home, so we've put together everything you need to know in one place. Let's break it down!

🏠 Summer Housing Options

First Things First: Move-Out Day

All students need to move out of their rooms by Friday, May 22nd at 6:00 PM. Mark it on your calendar now!

But if you have a late flight or you're walking at commencement, don't stress. You can submit an Extended Stay Request to stay a little longer. Extended stays in your current hall are officially available through May 23rd, but exceptions can be made for scheduled flights or if you're moving directly into summer housing on May 27th. When filling out the form, just select "Other Reasons" and explain your situation. They're pretty flexible about it!

Staying for the Summer? Here's What's Available

If you're sticking around campus for part or all of summer break, good news! South Hall and Ordal Hall will be open for summer student housing.

Here are the key details:

  • Ordal Hall offers single rooms at $24/night, with a minimum stay of 26 days
  • Summer housing runs through August 13th
  • After that, early fall move-in is handled separately by Residential Life

To be eligible, you need to be registered for a PLU summer class, enrolled for the upcoming Fall semester, or have been enrolled in the previous Spring semester.

⚠️ Application deadline is May 1st. If you apply after that and you'll be hit with a $100 late fee so don't procrastinate on this one!

When you fill out the application, you'll choose your check-in and check-out dates, so think through your summer plans before applying.

Need Both an Extended Stay AND Summer Housing?

Yes, you'll need to submit two separate applications. One for the extended stay (through Residential Life) and one for summer housing (through Hospitality Services). A little extra paperwork, but totally worth it for a smooth transition!

🍽️ What About Food?

Meal plans aren't available during the summer, but you can purchase Dining Dollars to use at Old Main Market, which stays open all summer long. You can add Dining Dollars through the GET app, online, or in person at OMM.

📦 Summer Storage Options

Okay, so what about all your stuff? This is a big one for international students. You can't exactly ship everything home and back again every year.

ISS Storage at Harstad Hall

Here's the great news: International Student Services (ISS) has your back. Even though Campus Life no longer offers general student storage (as of October 2024), ISS has set aside dedicated storage rooms in Harstad Hall specifically for international students to use over the summer or while studying away.

More detailed guidelines and sign-up procedures will be shared in May, so keep an eye out for that communication from ISS!

Off-Campus Storage Companies

If you have a lot of items or want the extra peace of mind that comes with a professional storage facility, there are several storage companies close to PLU and some of them even offer special discounts for PLU students!
