About Rei

 Hi everyone!

My name is Rei Oikawa and I am the new Student Intern at the PLU International Student Center. I was born in San Francisco and raised in Japan. I am a sophomore studying Business Marketing. Since my father was studying in the U.S. for his MBA degree, I've wanted to study business in the U.S. since I was little. Last fall, that dream finally came true when I moved from Japan to Tacoma to pursue a bachelor's degree in business administration.

One of my favorite things about PLU is its family-like environment. Everyone in this school - students, professors, housekeepers, and some staff - are friendly and very nice. When I was out of my acne cream that I brought from Japan, I really wanted to go to the dermatologist, but it was hard for international students to go to the doctor as a new patient. I emailed the PLU Health Center, and they told me that they can get the cream I wanted for me. I was so surprised and also so thankful to them. This is just an example, but they are here to help us. Not hesitating to reach out to them and using those resources for effective use is one of the keys to success in college.

When it comes to things outside of school, I like to explore restaurants and dessert places near school or in Seattle with my friends. I am a foodie, and I love food of any kind, especially Asian food! One time, we drove an hour and a half to Lynwood, which is part of Seattle, just to get the honey bread toast we were looking for. That was amazing. I would love to go to Seattle for every meal, but college students don't have that much free time. So I would highly recommend Lakewood, especialy because they have a lot of Asian food. You will find some delicious boba tea, Korean BBQ, cute cafes and acai bowls there!

If you need some help, or want to know other good food places around campus, you are welcome to come to our office! I am looking forward to meeting you!
